Privacy Policy & Terms of Service

Privacy Policy

No boilerplate! Just me, Terance Schmidt, telling you in plain English how I use your data and how I keep it private.

Really short version - I aim to collect data that allows me to sell and deliver hypnosis products and services to you. This is only with your permission, and your permission can be revoked by emailing me at [email protected] and asking me to erase your data. I don't share that data unless it's for legitimate and ethical purposes, of which there are few.

Longer version

Why I collect data

I collect data for the same reasons as most websites - to see how people use the website, and to serve you better. This includes things like confirming appointments, sending newsletters and offers, and delivering products and services you might have bought from me.

What kinds of data do I collect?

There are two types of data my website collects from you - personal and impersonal.

Impersonal data includes stuff like noting how people use the site - what pages they go to, how long they stay there, etc. If you don't give me any personally identifying data, then I don't know who to connect that information to. I mainly use that kind of information to see if various pieces of my website suck or if they're working for people.

Personal data is data which you give me about yourself. Things like your name, email address, phone number. When you give me those things, you're giving me permission to use them for the reasons that one would expect given the purposes I describe on this website, and I stick to that. That means things like following up with you on any questions you might have asked me, making offers for the sorts of things which I advertise on the site like hypnosis services and courses, setting and confirming appointments you may ask for.

Do I share your data with people who want to sell you stuff?

No. That would be unethical, probably illegal, and cost me your trust. Not worth it. Your trust is what allows me to sell you stuff, so I aim to keep it. (Hey, until you know me, I don't expect you to believe in my integrity, but you'll believe I like making money, right? Enlightened self-interest for the win.)

What if you want me to erase your data from my system?

Just email me at [email protected] and tell me to erase your data from my system. A clear statement like "Erase my data from your system" works best. Then I'll do that. Make sure to either write from the email address that I know you by or be prepared to show that you're the person whose data it is by confirming other information.

If you contact me afterward, I won't have any notes on you - because I'll have erased your data from my system. If you'd bought courses which live on my system, I won't have a way to know that you bought them - because I'll have erased your data from my system. Of course, receipts could work. If you needed it.

Do I collect more data than I need?

I try my level best not to, as it just confuses me when I go to use that data. If you ever suspect I'm collecting a piece of data that I don't really have a need for, please let me know. I'll either explain why I collect it or make life easier by not collecting it anymore.

How do I keep data from being accessed by people who don't have your permission to access it?

My system is run on High Level, an industry standard server system which uses security measures to protect your data. As their reputation is solid and security lapses would trash that reputation, they've got good incentive to keep your data safe.

Who do I share your information with?

Naturally, web services like High Level, where I store your information, and Mailgun, which is the company my emails go through on their way to you. They get your email address so they know who to send your email to.

Anyone with a warrant, of course (which will hopefully never happen - don't tell me if you're breaking the law. Also, don't break the law. At least the laws around sex. Those are important.).

If we're doing hypnosis and I'm running into a challenge, I may talk about your situation with fellow change-workers, including therapist friends, but I wouldn't share personally identifying information - that would make me look like an idiot, frankly. The only exception would be if I was working in tandem with another person you had working on you, like a doctor or psychotherapist, and we had your permission to discuss your situation.

Children and data

I sell hypnosis products and services for sex issues. So... I'm not keen on having data from the under-18 crowd. If someone under 18 has their information on my system, kindly message me at [email protected] so I can remove it.

Got any other questions about your data and me?

Do me a solid and email me at [email protected] with your question. I'll figure out the answer, let you know, and quite possibly add it to this document.

Terms of Service for SMS

What I use SMS for

When you opt in to receive SMS (text) messages, you can expect I'll use it for things like - confirming appointments you've asked for, reminding you of said appointments, returning texts and missed calls from you, and possibly letting you know about something you might find useful for things matching the subject matter of the website.

Will I use your number to make a voice call out of the blue to sell you something?

Good god no. It's 2024, we don't do that here.

How to cancel/ revoke consent to use your number

Your safeword is "STOP". I'm all about enthusiastic consent.

Just reply to any message with the word "STOP" to cancel messages from my website. When you do, my system will confirm that you've been unsubscribed with a return text, and then you'll no longer receive my text messages. If you want to rejoin, you can follow the steps you took to get signed up.

If you have an issue with the messaging program

If you run into an issue, just reply with the keyword HELP, or email me at [email protected]

Who's responsible for messages you got late or didn't get?

No one. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. I can't take responsibility for that either. We just send our messages out into the ether and hope they find their way to you. Pretty fucking amazing it works at all, isn't it?

Data rates

If you're paying for texts or data, then message and data rates may apply for messages we exchange.

More

Other than messages about appointments we might make or replies to questions, you should expect to receive maybe a message every week or so. For questions about your text plan or data plan, contact your wireless provider.

If you have questions about my privacy policy, scroll up to the top and read my privacy policy. If you still have questions, I'll appreciate you letting me know at [email protected]. That way I can both answer your question and update my privacy policy to include whatever I hadn't thought of or made plain enough.
